Hey everyone! I want to introduce you to Spongebob Squarepants..the cake! He was MAD ABOUT CAKES entry into the Royal Melbourne Show’s Novelty Cake Decorating Competition and he came Second! Spongebob stands over half a metre tall and is completely edible.
He is made mostly of cake, rice krispie treats, fondant and modelling chocolate and is completely hand decorated and crafted. To ensure Spongebob stood tall, an internal structure was created out of PVC pipe and drilled to the cake board. Who knew cake decorating could get so technical? My brother turned 18 and wanted some fancy shmancy toolbox for his birthday. So I gave him a tool box, just not in the way he was expecting. I gave him an entirely edible tool box cake made from a delicious Gluten Free Chocolate Fudge Cake layered with delicious Peanutbutter and Jelly Frosting.
The cake was stacked and coated in a thick chocolate ganache. I then covered it in red fondant and airbrushed it to achieve that shiny metal effect. Added details such as the hand painted handles finished off the toolbox. But, no tool box is complete without tools!
Every tool, nut and bolt was handmade, airbrushed and dusted for a realistic finish and was entirely edible. Although my brother may never be able to use this toolbox, he most definitely can eat it!

Sometimes it can be just as nice and exciting to keep the cake sweet and simple. In one of our latest creations, a gorgeous Vanilla Bean Sponge cake was layered together with a fresh Strawberry Frosting and covered with a Vanilla Bean Buttercream. I placed the cake on a turntable and glided my angled icing spatula around the cake to achieve the lined effect. The cake was finished off with folded fondant love hearts in pretty hues of pink, orange and yellow.
No cake is complete without its delicious sidekicks: cupcakes. Mini Gluten Free Chocolate Fudge and Vanilla Bean and Blueberry Cheesecake Cupcakes were also on offer with matching love heart decorations and 100s & 1000s.

Carved from rich and mouthwatering gluten free Chocolate Fudge Cake and covered in a healthy layer of Vanilla Bean Frosting. His arms and legs were crafted by hand and an airbrush was used to achieve all of his fun details such as his brown spots and slimey appearance! He rests on a lilypad, surrounded by water and pretty hand made flowers. Everything is edible and all of him is delicious!

A few weeks ago MAD ABOUT CAKES completed a massive order of 300 cupcakes freshly baked, frosted, decorated and boxed for the Solution Entertainment show case event held at Cargo Hall in Melbourne.
